{"id":1131,"date":"2009-03-13T11:10:46","date_gmt":"2009-03-13T11:10:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/crankymonkeybutt.com\/wordpress\/?p=1131"},"modified":"2015-07-07T14:02:52","modified_gmt":"2015-07-07T19:02:52","slug":"essays_shakespe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/crankymonkeybutt.com\/snip\/archives\/2009\/03\/essays_shakespe.html","title":{"rendered":"Essays: Shakespeare Wrote for Money, by Nick Hornby"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another collection of his &#8220;what I read vs. what I bought&#8221; essays for <em>The Believer<\/em> (yes, the very essays I refer to every month when I show you <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crankymonkeybutt.com\/snip\/archives\/hornbyesque\/\">my lists<\/a>! albeit without commentary).<\/p>\n<p>I always find these fun (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.crankymonkeybutt.com\/snip\/archives\/2008\/02\/essays_housekee.html\">see here for one I read last year<\/a>).  I also find they are dangerous because I always wind up adding to my &#8220;something I should read&#8221; someday lists, which are dangerous things for a person with my shall we call them &#8220;spending propensities&#8221; when she walks by a million bookstores every day.  Dangerous!<\/p>\n<p>Just a little reminder to myself to go pick up &#8220;Skellig&#8221; by David Almond, apparently voted the third greatest children&#8217;s book of the last seventy years.  Here&#8217;s what Hornby had to say: <em>&#8220;I can tell you that it&#8217;s one of the best novels published in the last decade, and I&#8217;d never heard of it.
