The choices in other categories were sparse, my friends, very sparse.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The best <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crankymonkeybutt.com\/lists\/2009\/03\/duff_at_the_movies_2009.html\">movie <\/a>I saw in January was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crankymonkeybutt.com\/snip\/archives\/2009\/03\/big_screen_cora.html\"><strong>Coraline<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The best <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crankymonkeybutt.com\/lists\/2009\/03\/books_read_in_2009.html\">book <\/a>I read in January was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crankymonkeybutt.com\/snip\/archives\/2009\/03\/fiction_the_gue.html\"><strong>The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows<\/strong><\/a>, which was just outright excellent.  No doubt about it.<\/p>\n<p>The best <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crankymonkeybutt.com\/lists\/2009\/02\/duff_does_live_music_2009.html\">gig <\/a>I went to in January DOES NOT EXIST.  I didn&#8217;t see\/hear any live music in January?  WTF!<\/p>\n<p>My favorite <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crankymonkeybutt.com\/snip\/archives\/2009\/03\/january_album_r_1.html\">tunes <\/a>in January were <strong>MGMT &#8220;Oracular Spectacular&#8221;<\/strong>, new <strong>Bon Iver EP &#8220;Blood Bank&#8221;<\/strong> and <strong>Why? &#8220;Alopecia.&#8221;<\/strong>  I was also still listening to <strong>Frightened Rabbit &#8220;Midnight Organ Fight&#8221;<\/strong>.  A lot.  And <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crankymonkeybutt.com\/lists\/2009\/03\/duffs_favorite_tunes_2008.html\">other favorites from 2008<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Random personal highlights:<\/em> Brunch with cousins; tail-end of <strong>Cat&#8217;s visit<\/strong> including brunch w\/ Lauren-O and Petey Sweatshirt; Cinnamon-arranged Stitch &#8216;n&#8217; Tweet; <strong>BStarG <\/strong>returned to TV: fancy dinner for T; <strong>Game Day!<\/strong> at my house; Party in Milwaukee; Spamalot.  <em>Huh.  Pretty good month.  In retrospect.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Lowlights?<\/em> Stress at secondary browsing location.
