{"id":1326,"date":"2010-01-12T13:35:33","date_gmt":"2010-01-12T13:35:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/crankymonkeybutt.com\/wordpress\/?p=1326"},"modified":"2011-10-29T20:02:14","modified_gmt":"2011-10-30T01:02:14","slug":"best_of_august_-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/crankymonkeybutt.com\/snip\/archives\/2010\/01\/best_of_august_-2.html","title":{"rendered":"Best of August"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The best <strong>movie <\/strong>I saw in August was a tie between <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crankymonkeybutt.com\/snip\/archives\/2010\/01\/big_screen_dist.html\">District 9<\/a><\/strong> (fantastic!) and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crankymonkeybutt.com\/snip\/archives\/2010\/01\/big_screen_ingl.html\">Inglourious Basterds<\/a><\/strong> (exhilarating!).<\/p>\n<p>The best <strong>book <\/strong>I read in August was <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crankymonkeybutt.com\/snip\/archives\/2010\/01\/short_stores_wh.html\">White Time by Margo Lanagan<\/a><\/strong>, followed closely by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/crankymonkeybutt.com\/snip\/archives\/2009\/09\/fantasymystery_.html\">a pair of wolf books by Patricia Briggs<\/a><\/strong>. Wow, those are two authors I just love.  <em>You may note there are a few reads on that list from August that I&#8217;m just not even bothering to write up, mostly continuations of trade paperback mystery series.  Bygones. A girl&#8217;s gotta get caught up somehow.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The best <strong>gig <\/strong>I went to in August was <a href=\"http:\/\/crankymonkeybutt.com\/snip\/archives\/2010\/01\/live_at_lollapa.html\"><strong>The Knux<\/strong>&#8216; set at Lollapalooza<\/a>.  But, as with the rest of the year, there just hasn&#8217;t been any real competition in this category.  I read a LOT this year but I did not go to many shows.<\/p>\n<p>My favorite tunes in August were&#8230; <a href=\"crankymonkeybutt.com\/snip\/archives\/2010\/01\/august_album_re.html\"><strong>Damien Rice<\/strong><\/a>, apparently.
