On Reuniting.

You know, it takes time. You can’t just have coffee and expect… There’s just so much to work through. Trust has to be built again on both sides. You have to learn if we’re even the same people we were, if you can fit in each other’s lives. It’s a long important process…
Can we just skip it? Can you just be kissing me now?

À la Super Eggplant, currently, I am…

Making: Not much. Very occasionally knitting on a sock, or on Maddox. (Both are up on Ravelry if you feel like finding me on it.) THINKING lots about quilting, and basting, and piecing, and planning, but not actually doing any of that.

Reading: Uh oh, I finished a book yesterday and I forgot to put a new one in my bag before I left this morning! It’s going to be Michael Chabon’s new one but looks like I won’t be starting it until tomorrow!

Watching: Still watching Buffy (season 6) and Angel (season 3). I was writing about them as I watched them for a while, but then I got bored with that as it just slowed me down and all I really wanted to do was watch more and more and more and more. Soon I will be done. Then what will I do with my time? I’ll have to go back to real life and it won’t be pretty! I am REALLY hoping to see both “Waitress” and “Hot Fuzz” (Dad review: BRILLIANT!) this week but not sure how that’s going to work out given that I am shopping tonight, concerting Thursday night and probably hemming a dress or two on Friday night (don’t ask).

Listening: Lots of musicals, thanks to Buffy (“Once More, With Feeling“) and a new Duncan Sheik (“Spring Awakening“) that How says is lots of fun. New albums by Travis, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and Elvis Perkins and still Arcade Fire, as well as old albums by Liam Frost & the Slowdown Family (really like) and Josh Pyke (like), and now that Paste comes out monthly, I’ve got at least two samplers I’ve barely put a dent in, and I’ve got a pile of TO BE LISTENED TO that I haven’t even broken into that includes Manu Chao and the Noisettes. Someday I will quit my job and then my stereo will really go up in flames. Someday.

I have no time for you.

I have a whole stack of books and concerts to write up. But I’m too busy watching TV: Buffy and Friday Night Lights. I’ve also watched EVERY episode of the US version of The Office over the past four days. No, I’m not joking. I’m overdosing, perhaps, but not joking. How a show can be so fucking hilarious and yet so sweet and sometimes (desperately) sad is really an accomplishment. More, please.

Supposedly Grey‘s is a new one this week. Do I care? Not at this moment. I’m just halfway through Lost from two weeks ago, and obviously would still have last week’s to watch too. Another show I am not caring very much about. The last six episodes of Standoff were supposed to start showing April 6, but apparently they decided to show reruns of House instead. It might be returning June 8 if this site is right. We’ll see.

Friday Night Lights Soundtrack

So as you may have assumed I would, I’ve purchased a lot of the songs that have been played on my favorite show. Last night, I submitted my playlist to iTunes as an iMix. So you can buy them now too if you’d like without searching for them separately.

(When you click on the link, give it a minute, it connects to apple & then it will automatically open your iTunes and take you to the iMix in the store.)

Best of February.

February’s over? I personally happen to love February but I have to admit, I was pretty much of a schlub all month.

Let’s see, the best gig I went to in February had to be…the Essex Green opening for Camera Obscura because, horror of horrors, I only went to one concert all month! (What was I doing with my time?)

The best book I read in February…well I guess that would be Proust Book 3 (or “The Guermantes Way” as it’s called in this translation) but I’m not done reading it! I started it Feb 1, I believe, or Jan 31, and I’ve still got (exactly) 104 pages to go… Doh! That said, I did have some pretty unexpectedly busy weekends in the month, so what’s a girl to do?

Only one concert? and one book? OK, this is pretty pathetic so far…

The best movie I saw in February was by far Blood Diamond, although I may have personally enjoyed Music & Lyrics a little more. You know, it had music, and it wasn’t as heartbreaking.

I am all about not getting my heart broken in February since I certainly get it broken every other stupid month of the year.

As for tunes in February, I’ve been all over the place. Obsessively listening to the soundtrack for Music & Lyrics, enjoying the new Fall Out Boy, listening to lots and lots of Rogue Wave especially after a (new?) single played on FNL, digging The Bees (US) and Midlake (who I told you about twice (1, 2) and then finally got…very ’70s peaceful, easy feelin…), and listening to some stuff I bought at the very end of January that didn’t get much play that month (new Youth Group!!!! “Casino Twilight Dogs” (*LOVE*) and The Guggenheim Grotto). Still lovin’ the Shins although my ear can’t recognize what’s the new album and what’s old…

Random personal highlights of the month were: a) Ame came to visit!; b) I went “home” (to NYC) and quilted with Jackie (and ate with Em, Stephanie and Jenn!) and saw Shawn and the kids!!!; c) new specs; d) brunch with the Strizz and her man!; e) Steph and Mark slept over in a storm; f) another night at the darkroom (hey Chicago Amy! Tracy and I missed ya!); g) finally finding yummy Chinese in Chicago!; h) flowers from MaryKay (so sweet!); and i) we got some snow!!!!

Lowlights: a) Bears lost the Bowl; b) new computer didn’t work for a week and had to be dragged back and forth to the store; c) even OLDER! Ah, well. On to March…

À la Super Eggplant, currently, I am…

Does it seem like all I am doing these days is listening to CDs? Well, that’s mostly true… BUT, I am also…

Making: About to sew the binding on to the first Strippers quilt! WOOOOOOOT! (Sleeping under it anyway without the binding on. Hello!) And randomly trying to reacquaint myself with knitting via the half finished Ribovili. Doh.

Reading: “The Eternal Footman” by James Morrow, the third in the trilogy of God’s demise that I have told you about several times now. Sooooooo funny.

Watching: Do I watch anything other than Friday Night Lights (new – and sooooo good) and Everwood (old, two episodes away from finishing the zillioneth rewatch of season 1)? Well, I do, but none of it delights me as much…

Just watched the pilot of Dirt though and I think it’s pretty good. DARK, but good.

Listening: In addition to a bunch of stuff from people’s 2006 top 10 lists, I’m listening to a bunch of Brits: Long Blondes, Paolo Nutini, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly (Best Name EVER! and bonus, I LOVE the album!!), as well as the new Shins.

À la Super Eggplant, currently, I am…

Making: Just a binding away from finishing the first Strippers of the Orient quilt (finished ALL the free motion quilting on Sunday. woot!). And maybe 20-30 stitch in the ditch quilting seams away from finishing a baby Log Cabin I made ALL IN ONE (mon)DAY thanks to Eleanor Burns’ Log Cabin in a Day book (I would have finished it entirely had I not gone out to dinner). Also have 8 of 21 pieces sewn together on another Dear Jane block.
Reading: “Beasts of No Nation” by Uzodinma Iweala. It was a Christmas gift.
Watching: Rewatched (or listened to and occasionally looked up at) entire fourth season of Everwood during the Sunday/Monday quilting extravaganzas. Waiting not very patiently for the next new episode of Friday Night Lights which I think isn’t on until next week (you are KILLING ME, NBC). Watched the last half hour of the Globes. Booooring. And hello has Warren Beatty completely lost his mind?
Listening: The Long Blondes, picked up in London. LOVE IT. Paolo Nuttini’s full length. Also UK. Also love it. (It’s even better than the EP I told you about before.) Jim Noir “Tower of Love”. He might be TOO HAPPY for me.

Just started Season 2 of House.

Love Cameron’s new hair! Really liking Chase so far this season. Weird, he’s usually my least favorite. Love watching old episodes of shows and seeing the guest appearances you didn’t expect: Ron Livingston in episode 4 as a “mission” doctor, totally hitting on Cameron.
